1. Plumsted
is a leader in Farmland Preservation
with 45 farms,
providing more than 3,000 acres of
tax paying open space forever.
2. Preserved and protected farmland for
future generations is accomplished
with state, county, and Department of
Defense (Federal) dollars.
This provides a significant
savings to township residents by
preventing overdevelopment that would
lead to an increased strain on all
township services (i.e. schools,
police, fire, first aid, roadways)
3. The
official township website (
www.Plumsted.org )
specifically lists 39 Shared Service
Agreements.
These agreements provide
hundreds of thousands of dollars in
savings for local tax payers.
4. As a
result of Shared Service Agreements
between the Plumsted Township School
Board and the Township, every child is
afforded the opportunity to ride to
school on a school bus.
Our children are safer by not
having to walk to school, especially
in inclement weather. This agreement
also provides a savings to taxpayers
in excess of $100,000 dollars in new
sidewalks that would need to be
installed and the salaries of
countless crossing guards that would
have to be added at many dangerous
intersections.
5. The New
Jersey Local Public Contracts Law
requires schools and townships to
advertise and award bids to the lowest
responsible and responsive bidder by
law. This process is governed by state
law to maintain fairness.
6. Plumsted Township
has the lowest municipal tax bill out
of 33 municipalities in Ocean County.
The municipal portion of the
property tax bill is the only part
that the Plumsted Township Committee
directly controls.
7. Township residents are fortunate to
have a First Aid Squad, Emergency
Medical Responders and Fire Department
that provide response times better
than the statewide average response
time.
These services are comprised of
both certified and highly qualified
professionals.
8. The
Township Committee passed a Capital
Bond Ordinance after a Public Hearing
was held more than a year ago to
authorize Plumsted to improve and
purchase equipment for playgrounds.
9. The
on-going 5 year Capital Improvement
Plan by the Township Committee and
its Main Street Board of Directors
for downtown New Egypt projects, has
provided:
two
new parking lots, the newly dedicated
Volunteer Park, new paving, sidewalks,
and pedestrian safety enhancements
with funding from the State’s
Neighborhood Preservation Program
Grant ($525,000); the State’s Downtown
Business Improvement Zone ($543,000);
and the Federal Community Development
Block Grant ($110,000).
The current construction and
new paving of both Main Street and
North Main Street is scheduled to be
completed before Thanksgiving, weather
permitting.
10. The
official township website (
www.Plumsted.org ) provides
4 years of financial information
including Budgets and audits for the
township.
This information is freely and
conveniently available.
11. Plumsted Township’s evaluation and
scoring for the State Division of
Local Government Service Section’s
2011 list of Financial and
Administrative Best Management
Practices
qualifies the Township to be in the
100% state aid category.
This information can be viewed
on the township website (
www.Plumsted.org ).
12. Press
releases are sent to local newspapers
by township officials on an ongoing
basis and, unfortunately, newspapers
do not always print the information.
